The UK Research Councils Digital Economy theme has invested ￡138m in innovation projects and training since launch in 2008, supporting research to rapidly realise the transformational impact of digital technologies on aspects of community life, cultural experiences, future society, and the economy.
The annual ‘All Hands’ showcase event, now in it’s 4th year, brings together the unique community of researchers (from diverse disciplines including social science, engineering, computer science, the arts and medical research) and users (people, business, government) to share findings and network. The event has previously been hosted by the DE’s Hubs in Nottingham (2010) Newcastle (2011), and Aberdeen (2012).
From 4 ? 6 November 2013, the Digital Economy will take over Salford Quays, home to MediaCityUK, a new international hub for the creative and digital sectors, with DE2013: Open Digital taking advantage of the state-of-the-art facilitates at The University of Salford, The Lowry and the BBC. Delegates will hear from expert speakers and leading researchers, take part in exploratory workshops, and witness the latest innovations and prototypes through technology demonstrators.
DE2013: Open Digital will foster an open spirit and theme of inclusivity, encouraging submissions and registration from anyone in the research or industrial community, active in or impacted by the Digital Economy, and is not exclusive to researchers already funded by the UK Research Councils.
Creation of a community in the UK that is capable of world class, leading research in the Digital Economy area is a key aim of the Digital Economy Theme, with DE2013: Open Digital a key event designed to encourage the development of this community.
