Programme

2013 is the fourth year the RCUK’s Digital Economy Programme has organised an ‘All Hands’ meeting to bring together the research community from across sectors.

The RCUK’s Digital Economy Theme seeks to transform the lives of people, communities and businesses through the design and deployment of innovative information and communication technologies. The annual showcase event is a multidisciplinary environment in which innovative thinkers and researchers are able to share ideas about how to make an impact on society across a range of sectors including transport, healthcare, financial services, and the creative industries.

The two-and-a-half day event will feature keynotes, themed sessions, paper presentations, workshops and technology demonstrators. Confirmed speakers include: Ian Livingstone CBE, one of the founding fathers of the UK games industry; Professor Dame Wendy Hall, founding director of the Web Science Trust; and Professor Irene Ng, Director of the International Institute for Product and Service Innovation.

DE2013 will foster an open spirit and theme of inclusivity, encouraging submissions and registration from anyone in the research or industrial community whether funded by the RCUK Digital Economy Theme or not. We also welcome submissions from others active in or impacted by the Digital Economy.

Submissions from doctoral students are particularly welcome, whether associated with one of the Digital Economy Centres for Doctoral Training or indeed other Digital Economy activity, and such papers will be reviewed separately to ensure representation of this body of work at the event.

The event will be held at Salford Quays, home to MediaCityUK, a new international hub for the creative and digital sectors, the event will take advantage of the stunning facilities at the BBC, the University of Salford, and the Lowry arts centre.

Creation of a community in the UK that is capable of world class, leading research in the Digital Economy area is a key aim of the Digital Economy Theme. The All Hands Meeting is a key event designed to encourage the development of this community.

A full programme will be announced in August.
